Love it when Omar guests!
Great discussion. It’s a bit sad coming to the end of the Robin arc that lasted one and a half seasons. I started watching in real time during season eight, so his presence was part of my initial experience as a viewer. He brought a fun dynamic to the show, and even when he was not in an episode, he was often talked about by others. I appreciate Roger Rees’ acting even more now than when I was younger. It’s hard to believe he and Kirstie Alley have both passed away, more than 10 years ago in his case.
It felt like Robin really loved Rebecca here, especially with the sonnet he delivered at the wedding. Part of me wishes they had ended up together, although his feelings at other times seemed less sincere. I haven’t seen his Season 11 appearance in quite a while, but I’m looking forward to watching that again.
I agree that, from this point forward, Rebecca sort of blends into the ensemble a bit and stands out less as one of the two leads of the show. And as you note, the ensemble is growing, with Paul now firmly entrenched as the third barfly after Norm and Cliff. I like how he gradually became more of a regular.
That desk was indeed a gift from Robin, which she thought he’d hidden an engagement ring in, and she took a powersaw to it. How she got it restored *without* finding that money pouch is a big plot hole with this episode’s reveal. I guess it’s possible he bought her *another* desk, and he just routinely puts $6 million pouches on gifts to all of his lovers, but that would make me think he’s not as good with money as he’s supposed to be.
Excellent discussion of this episode. It’s a big highlight of the series and one of my favorites, especially Rebecca’s wedding march in reverse. Just hilarious!
