  1. By coincidence, I saw a recent photo of Mike Dukakis on social media a couple hours before your podcast episode came out. He’s 92 years old now, the oldest living presidential nominee of a major party and the nominee from the furthest back in time. That was the first presidential election I followed closely.

Yeah, Frasier’s ethics as a psychiatrist are definitely questionable here yet again. In addition to bringing all those people to the bar against their wishes, he made no effort to correct Woody about burying all his emotions, instead telling Woody that it was fine and then making the “tick tick tick” comment to Norm.

The relatively serious scene for Sam at the end, when he’s reflecting on growing older, reminds me of the season four episode when he’s in the hospital, mistakes another patient’s daughter for his wife, and then looks out the window in contemplation. That episode, this one, and the last few episodes of the series comprise sort of an arc of Sam’s journey toward greater maturity throughout the series, albeit not in a straight line, as he seems to take a step forward and then a step back, for comedic purposes no doubt.
