Here’s Jack Larson’s take on Reeves’ death:

Very informative episode guys! I saw Hollywoodland when it came out in the theater and will be checking it out again.
Thanks for posting that Chuck! I heard Larson comment on being at the crime scene shortly after, but I never heard him being with Toni Mannix! Wow!
Chris
Great clip, Chuck! Thanks!
My local comic shop had a signing with the authors of the book, when it was first published. I was curious; but, a bit wary as it struck me as a bit exploitive and wrapped in conspiracy theory thinking. I heard that a movie was coming out and figured it would probably be nonsense and didn’t give it much more thought, until I heard Affleck was cast. He’s a good actor, when motivated, but, lazy when not. I wasn’t sure what I’d get, so, I didn’t leap to see this. However, I did hear some decent reviews, mostly that Affleck was really good and people wanted to see more of him as Reeves. I’ll have to check this out, at some point. I’m not sure what the truth is; but, the murder theories tend to focus on gossip, rather than evidence, so I have trouble buying that. Like Chris, though, I had heard the “jumped out a window” story, from my brother, as a kid. of course he said Superman, not the actor, so I didn’t believe him anyway. How could Superman die by jumping out a window. It was a key moment in never trusting anything my brother told me.
I do have to say that George Reeves was a very good actor and it was showcased well in The Adventures of Superman. I always preferred his Clark Kent as a nice balance between being cowardly, but still a hard-nosed reporter. It fit a little more with how the key 70s Superman writers (Cary Bates and Eliott S! Maggin) handled the character. It’s a shame Reeves didn’t live to see the adulation he would have likely received. Also, he directed one of the best Superman episodes and he might have carved out a decent directorial career.
