Yes to mandatory air pods for all public spaces.
Also, I would be in on a “Third Shift” F&W group show. Living outside The Villages, FL, seeing how some people treat retail workers tell me that a lot of them have never worked retail and/or third shift.
Sort of like how some countries have mandatory military service (which I would never support), sometimes I think everyone should have to work a few weeks in retail just so they can develop a little bit of empathy.
BTW Sean not sure how much you care about/follow this, but it’s funny to see how many actresses are trying to get on James Gunn’s radar when it comes to being the new cinematic Wonder Woman. The role didn’t do all that much for Gal Gadot in the long run, but it’s interesting to see that it hasn’t stopped a new generation of actresses wanting the role.
Inkers? Here goes: Romeo Tanghal, Bret Breeting, Art Thibert, Terry Austin, Kevin Nowlan.
Love seeing how the sauce (and other things?) are affecting Mindi. I say this because big things are a-coming, right, Sean??? Right?
Love hearing Keith G on the show. Boy, did Lynda Carter imprint on all of us or what?
First of tales of third shift needs to
Happens I once worked midnight shift as desk
Clerk .
Here’s the story : there are two sets of dorms the new ones and old ones the old ones have multiple people on desk the new one only ever has one person on desk . And we supposed to.
Rotate shirft every three months the higher ups for got I was on midnight shift alone in new building office for a year . The most exciting thing the happened was reporting backed up toilets and broken washers and dryers .
Many on only companions where the spirts of pro wrestlers I was watching old episodes of world class championship wrestling so ya I had the von Erichs and free birds . And when I got off Night Shift, I had to give up soda for a full year. Just got my body to be used to caffeine again. I drank so much Dr Pepper during the midnight shift. I hate my night shift. I am not a night person.
Inclusion tales of the third shift miniseries please yes do the series.
Honestly, I have forgotten about that till now I did not realize I had so much trauma built up about that. Thanks it feels good getting it out.
And I my have got the host wrong the third shift thing if did consider it my lasso of truth moment and push the idea of tails in third shift miniseries
I meant to ask last time, is ‘third shift’ what we in the UK call ‘night shift’ ie ‘overnight’?
For me third shift was the midnight shift can’t see who the same for everyone else
When my dad worked third shift, it was the midnight-8:00 am shift. First shift was 8:00 am-4:00 pm and second shift was 4:00 pm-midnight.
Thanks for another splendid episode, it’s terrific to have Keith on as a guest, I especially enjoyed the talk about mythological writings and teaching styles – I honestly didn’t know some US schools used the Socratic system, I feel distinctly unclassy!
I’d forgotten this issue has nudie Hippolyte on a beach – was George trying to titillate part of the readership? Wasn’t Diana also hailing the morning sun in the nuddy in a previous issue, the habit is mentioned this time.
Also, I don’t believe Amazons could ‘express entire paragraphs in as few as two characters’. If George believed such things were possible we’d not have had the longer-than-War-and-Peace ‘Time Passages’ issue. Mind, I do admire how much George accomplishes here, setting up the absence of the gods, the mystery of what’s up with Mercury, the aftermath of the Superman debacle, Myndi’s downturn, the presence of Circe…
…speaking of the purple-haired prestidigitator, in your round-up of comic book Circes. Sean, you forgot the Silver Age Circe who was an ally of the Superman Family, when she wasn’t Saturn Girl in disguise – she was the lover of Biron, who became Comet the Super Horse.
That was a brilliant comment from Keith about Steve Trevor and Etta Candy’s liaison being akin to Lois Lane getting together with Steve Lombard. Yes, maybe it is a way to get some romance into the book, but it just felt like a total slap in the face to readers of the previous volume, Steve is in the book to satisfy tradition, but let’s get him out of the way by having him get together with Etta, also conveniently aged up. I hated this so much. Etta had a perfectly great boyfriend in Howard Huckaby just before the Crisis who could have been reintroduced. Etta never seemed happy in this book, it felt like she was being bullied by the times into losing weight. And it felt like Steve was settling – DC should have just given him a zap of magic and made him younger; I get the notion that Diana shouldn’t be shown to have a boyfriend to make her ‘complete’ but she could’ve had a boyfriend to generally enrich her life… you didn’t need a partner to be happy, but if you happen to meet someone with whom you’re simpatico you can be differently happy, happier even.
I loved the question about three places to see in the DCU. I suppose the Fortress of Solitude and Batcave are off limits. Midway City Museum would be great, we could see if there are any display items that haven’t been nicked by the Hawks. And how about Ted Grant’s gym, to watch all the future superheroes sweating? And finally, I’d take a tour of Arkham Asylum, to fit extra locks.
‘Tooting’ – I had to look that one up, I assumed it was tweeting or something.
Finally, a TV recommendation, if you want lovely stories and Greek scenery, and haven’t seen the show – it started about a decade ago and ran for four series – check out The Durrells starring Keeley Hawes, it’s gorgeous.
Always good to hear another NC guy on the network! Wonder Woman works best when she is dealing with a magical villain(less) so Circe fits perfectly.
Inkers? You mentioned Terry Austin and Dick Giordano. Growing up on mid-to-late 1970s Superman, Murphy Anderson on Curt Swan is also one of my favorites. I’m currently re-reading the Kree-Skrull War in The Avengers and really like Tom Palmer on Neal Adams work in the latter issues of that story.
I totally agree 1000% w/ loudly watching videos or having conversations on your phone in public. My wife was aggravated recently when a couple of folks pulled out their phones in a movie theater. However, I am frequently amused by the fellow whom I see when I go for a run at our local park. While walking his dogs, he tunes into the local classic rock station and has it on speaker so everyone can hear it. Nothing gives you a second wind like “More Than a Feelin'” or “Double Vision”.
Thanks for another great show, Sean and Keith.
I think my favorite series with a dual writer/artist was Terry Moore’s Strangers in Paradise or maybe Michael Cho’s Liberty Meadows.
I’d also like to add my harumph to the mandatory air pods for all.
Great episode! Keith is a great guest as always.
Second the love for Absolute Wonder Woman and Dark Patterns- both story and art. Until you mentioned it, I hadn’t thought of Circe “rehabbing” her image since the 80’s in both Marvel and DC. She is fantastic in AWW.
Regarding Steve and Diana – you got me thinking. I am doing a re-read of all the Bronze Age WWs this year. Starting when she got her powers back and I am into 1981 now. They had no idea what to do with Steve. He was killed twice and brought back twice. There were lots of declarations of love between Steve and Diana but nothing to demonstrate it. At the time when Len/George made Steve older and got him involved with Etta, I wasn’t sure about it but quickly became a big fan. That was by far when they were most interesting. It really wasn’t until the reboot for New 52 and more importantly rebirth until Steve had half a personality. Between that and the movies and TV show is what people are thinking when they think he is WW’s Lois. He really has rarely been developed or even remotely as interesting as Lois.
That’s my 2 cents anyway.
Awesome show every month. And thanks for the shout out.
Great show, Sean and Keith!
Cersi is always an interesting villain. She’s a hot, classy, mature, evil lady lounging around on fancy furniture making plans. You know she always has primo wine and grapes. You also know she’s bad news, but you just don’t care. She’s the Mrs. Robinson of the DC universe.
Inking is a lost art in comic books, as digital has almost made it unnecessary to hire an inker. I totally agree, Sean, I always thought Romeo Tagal was George’s best inker, even above himself. He kept it clean and emphasized his work while also seemingly staying out of the way, so nothing was lost.
I love Keith’s breakdown on DC sports teams. I could totally see sports networks either sucking up to Bruce Wayne or crushing him.
“Tony, the last-place Gotham Knights are NOT re-signing their pro bowl left tackle. Meanwhile owner Bruce Wayne just spent $2 billion on tactical gear that Wayne claims is for rock climbing!”
“Wilbon, Diana Russini (pictured here on Wayne’s yacht) reports that all is well, the Knights have a plan, and Bruce is really fit.”
Places to visit in the DC Universe:
Crime Alley to lay down on the chalk outlines and get some souvenirs at The Suspicious and Cowardly Lot
Beam up to the Justice League satellite for the view and see where Mr. Terrific was murdered
A Lazarus pit. Not to jump into completely, I just want to get my knees in there.
I think eventually Steve Trevor should have been de aged maybe After the Etta Candy story had run its Course. having him be too old for Diana just got weird after a while.
By the way I think Bruce Wayne on ESPN would have rated him being interviewed by Laura Rutledge or Malika Andrews.
