As a big fan of westerns, I am a big fan of Burt Lancaster. Vera Cruz, Gunfight at the OK Corral, Lawman, The Professionals, The Unforgiven (not to be confused with the Clint Eastwood film) are all excellent films, elevated even further by Lancaster’s performances. He had an undeniable charm that shined through even when he played the villain. It’s amazing that the legendary tough guy’s final performance was such a sweet and gentle man. A man who gave up an eternity of playing baseball with his heroes, because a little girl needed his help, and he has absolutely no regrets. “Moonlight” Graham is the most unforgettable character in a movie full of unforgettable characters.
Damn, Rob! knocked it out of the park again. Love the Lancaster!
He’s had so many great roles, but the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Burt Lancaster in the two part miniseries, The Phantom of the Opera (1990), which I consider the best version of that story.
