  1. The Swamp Thing/Sgt Rock crossover in Rick Veitch’s time travel arc follows the plot of this issue so closely it’s probably deliberate homage.

  2. Fun show gents. This is another one I got in one of those Whitman 3-packs. It was a favorite of my early DCCPs, and defintiely my introduction to Sgt. Rock and Easy Co.

Superman getting amnesia from explosions goes back to the classic season 2 Adventures of Superman episode “Panic in the Sky”, which was also used in a comic story around the time, and of course inspired endless homages either in subject or story title.Explosions sending him through time is the hook of “Time and Time Again”, one of the better multi-part arcs during the 90s triangle era in the Superman comics. He gets sent back to WWII then, too!

Bass will be happy to know John Stewart DID team-up with Sgt. Rock and Easy Co. in the 3-part season finale to Justice League Season One, “The Savage Time”. It doesn’t quite shake out like his story, but it’s nonetheless entertaining, and John’s military background (which this show introduced) comes into play.

  3. Ok here’s my weird Sgt. Rock cross over when easy company storms an axis strong hold with Scottish Marnie nick named woody do to his wood hand a nick name a descendants of his would pick up in the future. They get caught in trap where there blasted by experimental proton bean weapon because the bad guys didn’t have time to set the settings right instead of blasting them out of existence it sent them into the future specifically the same time era as one of there closed descendants it sends them to woody’s who happens to be Stuart woody woods of the bay city rollers on there tour bus so now the bay city rollers have to Stuart’s great grandfather and rest of EZ company get back to ww2 while fighting a wide
Variety of sleeper agents . Also the have rescue other time displaced people . The big bad is a new villain Baron proton and his werewolves (there actually trained mutant gereman shepherd men but last person who said that is some where in 1986 .)

  4. A very interesting comic that I never would have read without your coverage. I’ve never been a war comic fan and I believe the only comic featuring Sgt. Rock I’ve ever read was Bruce Wayne Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. from Amalgam comics. My favorite part of the episode was the discussion about how silly Superman’s time travel power was and how accurate the depiction of Superman not being willing to kill, even Nazi’s during war time. Keep up the great work gentlemen.

  5. Fun episode! I always thought this was a cool story, despite the crazy selective amnesia. I agree with Bass that it was funny Superman was called “Tag-Along” given who he was. Superman’s refusal to kill totally fit and overall this was a satisfying story, despite the crazy set up.

Note – the issues you have covered and a few more are all in the recent DC Finest Team Ups volume, which was a great read. It was great to listen to this after just having recently read the story again for the first time in a long time.

  6. I do think of amnesia and time travel as big tropes for Silver Age Superman, but they didn’t bother me for this story because I will gladly take it as an excuse for a bonkers team-up. I can tell I wouldn’t really get into Sgt Rock comics for an extended period, but a team-up is a fine way to get a taste that I’ll enjoy. Team-ups doing their job.

Well, I forget to write this feedback right after listening due to the family vacation, and I also forget who I had in mind for a Rock team-up. Instead, I’ll note that the latest issue of JSA has cameos by Rock, the Unknown Soldier, and the Blackhawks, which I appreciate Post-Crisis continuity allowing.
