  1. Interesting show as always. Not sure I can add too much to what you already said. It sounds like you’ve never watched any of those Hallmark Christmas movies where the heroine often finds true love in just a matter of days, or even hours. Unbelievable, perhaps, but a well done trope.

By the way, my feed cuts off at the 1:37 mark. So you may want to check into that.

    1. Thanks for the heads up Hal. We had the same problem with our Mr. and Mrs. Superman episode. We just had our internet connection repaired since uploading this, so hopefully we won’t have this problem again! Folks if you listened to this early, drop back in and check out the missing 10 minutes! Sorry for the snafu!

And big shout out to Siskoid for going above and beyond to get this fixed for me while I’m away at work!

  2. Fun show! Cindy is right, GA is kinda creepy in this episode. Stop pimping out the young girl, my man! The romance did seem accelerated but what can you do in 22 minutes? I feel like the episode was for long time fans who knew the characters history. I enjoyed the episode even tho I’m not a legion or Braniac fan.

  3. Rhys and I just started watching the Doctor Destiny episodes from season 2, so I’ll comment on this episode when we get to it next year.

  4. Seeing the entire Baxter-era Legion in JLU was a treat, and a great episode. I’m afraid it has me hankering for a rewatch of their animated series. So much fun!

Another slight comic connection could be that the Fatal Five’s first appearance included the death of a Legionnaire, Ferro Lad, cementing the threat that Supergirl (or somebody) could die in this story. There was even a Legion reject, Mentalla, who joined the Fatal Five in an attempt to infiltrate them to prove her worth, and when she tried, the Empress killed her outright. They truly earned the “Fatal” part of their name.

And the number of episodes left keeps ticking down! Eek!

    1. Good point on the “Fatal” Five, Tim! I can see Mentalla’s Who’s Who entry by the much-missed Steve Lightle right now. Empress don’t play!

Yeah, we’re barreling toward the end!

          1. my god HOW old did you say you were? Then again I get the reference.

          2. The “I Love Lucy” version of the sketch had the trigger word be… “Martha”…

  5. Thanks Chris, Cindy, and Dr. Anj for another great episode! I wanted to point out that in the past you’ve taken GL to task for using Kara’s real name in public, but she calls GL by his real name in this episode. I guess it’s somewhat public knowledge (Bouncing Boy does blurt it out when they first meet) so maybe there isn’t too much for concern. Perhaps Kara using his real name was a small device the writers used to show she has graduated from the teacher/student relationship with him and is now a true colleague, as he alludes to earlier in the episode.

FYI, I listed to this episode yesterday on Spotify and it still cuts out at the 1:37 mark on there.

    1. Good point on the Kara calling John by name. It seems like his ID is public, or at least semi-public, as the people in his neighborhood knew he was a GL WAY back in “In Blackest Night” in JL Season One.

Thanks for the heads up on Spotify. I’m not sure why it didn’t update there. I’ll look into it.

  6. I loved this JLU episode on first airing. At the time I didn’t think too much about the whole Supergirl falling for Brainiac 5 too fast angle, perhaps because in the books they had been an item (well until 1985). But I have seen how some people just click within a couple of hours of meeting and then have that blossom over time into a true romance. So maybe it wasn’t all that bad. That being said Green Cupid Arrow did seem a bit creepy. But perhaps, and giving Ollie a bit of an excuse here, as he is a known playboy at one point he knew Kara needed to let down her hair and by encouraging her he was giving her permission to have fun. After all in present day she might not feel comfortable dating – but in the future she isn’t just Clark’s cousin etc she’s free to be herself and that includes dating.

Cindy, Chris and Dr Anj gave a great commentary on this episode and I too am dreading the end of JLUCast – I wish that we’d had more episodes of JLU in the first place and as we are about to run out of them for the pod to cover I feel that frustration even more knowing we should have had more episodes. However as the saying goes “All good things must end” and well this podcast series is very very good so I guess it has to meet that point as well.

Thank you for a thought provoking and entertaining listen every episode!
