oHOTmu or NOT Ep.108: The Momjito Special

The tradition after every two issues: We revisit issue 12 of the Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe Deluxe AND Vol.4 of Who’s Who to look at the different fashions some of these characters have worn over the years. Which have been redeemed or condemned? So pour yourself a finger of the good stuff, plop a mint leaf into it and give the Hot Squad a listen! (Oh, and stay to the very end for a surprise announcement!)

  1. Terrific show. Storm and Catwoman kill it no matter the outfit. Chemo needs to stay with the classic look. I was interested that you used tonic water instead of seltzer/club soda in your mojito. I’d never heard that before. Probably adds a little bite to the sweetness of the simple syrup. And, congrats on the engagement!

  2. Great show and funny to hear the varying levels of inebriation!

A big fan of Silver Sable in all her looks. And Storm has mostly succeeded although I always think of the Silverstri and the Lee looks in my mind.

Funny to hear the response to the Jim Balent Catwoman. That book sold well mostly because of the art. I like the Cooke look the most with Julie Newmar a very close second.

Congrats to Shotgun!! That is one lucky guy!!!

  3. Fascinating that The Girls preferred the most recent comic Catwoman costume over the Darwyn Cooke design. I would have thought the “male gazey” and impractical cleavage would have put them off over the more practical but still stylish Emma Peel-like catsuit. Never a dull moment on this show! The “ASS” chant made me laugh a bit out loud at work.

Congrats to Shotgun on the engagement! Man, lots of engagements, weddings, and now babies on this show! It’s like a soap opera! A MA-rated soap opera!

When one of you is replaced by an evil (or maybe that would be a good) twin, we’ll know you’ve jumped the shark.

  4. Great show ladies and gentleman! I am one of Mike Grell’s biggest fans and I admit that the Cosmic Boy bustier was a horrible mistake. That said, the great Dave Cockrum of both Legion and X-Men fame was the primary designer of the Legion’s updated uniforms in the 1970s. He also updated the X-Men’s uniforms and his Legion designs for two new characters eventually became Storm and Nightcrawler. So, even though I love Mike Grell it’s actually Dave Cockrum who’s the man! He had a knack for designing costumes that few comic artists do.

  5. Disappointed we didn’t get Sunspot’s Reignfire outfit for a bit more 90s excessiveness. Then again, they may have retconned it so that Reignfire WASN’T Bobby after all…

  6. Ladies I feel vindicated for my dislike of the new look for Chemo but now I can’t unsee that it looks like he’s wearing a headset microphone , so now anytime I see him in my head he’ll be singing the song Toxic while on a rampage.

  7. Great show ! Thanks for the second introduction, don’t worry it was more confusion and no “osti de tabarnak!!!”.
I liked Storm’s punk look but i prefer the white costume and long hair.
I’ve been out of comics for a while and i didn’t know there was so much Spider-Men now!
