On this episode of Who’s Editing?, Siskoid and special guest Captain Entropy tackle Who’s Who Update ’87 #5 and reinvent the DC Universe using only that comic’s entries! Superboy! The Watchmen! VIBE!!! And perhaps some of the most obscure characters yet.

  1. Thanks for the opportunity, Siskoid. I had a super time!

I forgot another plug until after the recording was done — and it’s probably the next guest appearance to drop (April timeframe). On the Relatively Geeky Network, if all goes to plan, I’ll do an episode of Professor Alan’s Eyes and Ears on comedy comics. Given our subject matter here and especially the comics in Siskoid’s line, this seems an appropriate place to plug it. Sure, Siskoid teaches and coaches, and he’s worked for a university, and he knows more than I do on many, many subjects, but he was just the warm-up! This will be your chance to hear the famously pedantic Captain Entropy get schooled by an actual professor! Catch you there!

  2. Kudos to Cap and Siskoid. Those were some tricky entries to deal with.

However as much as I would LOVE to read both lines in full… If I could only buy one book it’s going to the Suicide Squad but if my news stand doesn’t have it …. WildDog with G’nort would be my second purchase.

My concept for Watchmen would have tied into the Justice League and the staff of the Watchtower. It would be a book about the team behind the scenes who keep the whole station running – how do you get recruited? What’s the entry point? Do you have to do a rotation of working in sanitation before you are allowed to watch the monitors? How stressful is it to be giving directions to Superheroes and talking them through battles or attacks etc? Can you tell anyone about the job ? We’d start with a character being recruited into the ranks and follow them along the path with their fellow recruitment class – but of course this recruit is a plant he’s secretly working for another organisation who are trying to infiltrate the set up – are they DEO? Kobra? Checkmate? Cadmus ? Lexcorp? we’d find out and we’d also find out that someone else recruited in the same class is also infiltrating but for different and opposite organisation. So we’d end up with two spies who are spying on each other and everyone else while trying to maintain cover and feedback – sometimes they work together sometimes they work as opposites. Because when you are a Watchman everyone is watching you watching them. I’d also ask Greg Rucka to write it.

  3. Big Tim Stiles asked on another medium about the story I didn’t tell about Salaak, because some one else had done it. Here’s my response:

“Tim, it’s the Rise of the Third Army, through all the GL books in 2012 and 2013, starting with an annual. But I got it wrong! Salaak gets imprisoned by the Guardians before he can have his Odyssey!”

So, half of it would’ve been new.

  4. Loved the episode, I but Iistened several days ago and the only note I can find is ‘Zymyr could be a future version of Mr Mind’ – which I know neither of you said.

Anyway, I get to buy a book from each of you, and I remember being impressed by the many great ideas.

So, I think Siskoid’s comedy Vanguard and Captain Entropy’s Vibe as Kid Eternity would be my picks… if I’m misattributing, I do apologise.

The Captain referencing the Pol Manning Green Lantern sequence made my day, what a bizarre business that was. Forget Iona Vane, he should have romanced Misty from that DC Super-Stars Superboy special.
