Silver St. Cloud would make any man yell at the picture of his dead parents.
of course it does’nt help that bruce has portraits of his parents every five feet
I wonder who Bruce had photos of in his childhood
Maybe the gray gosht or some members of the JSA ?
Here’s my secret question we know in the real world Elvis was big fan of the big red cheese .
My question is as kid before the event that changed his life what comics did Bruce read and what comics do think dick reads (note for this though experiment marvel comics exist and dc golden age (as we know berry Allen has them )
(And Malibu and uk comics and now comics exist still exist but no image or dark horse comics and no Bronze Age dc comics unless like in the marvel universe they get the rights from the hero’s complete with fictional civilian identity.)
Oops typo Elvis was fan of captain marvel jr sorry mistake
Professor Pain/Payne would have worked perfectly as a name! If he had been introduced in the Silver Age, I could see him being called Professor Protoplasm or something like that. Later on, in the 90s, he may have been called Waxwork or just Waxx. Too bad The Melter was already taken. Later, Marv Wolfman would introduce Plasmus of the Brotherhood of Evil, who was essentially a German version of Clayface III minus the tragic back story.
By any name, Clayface III gave me the creeps as I mentioned last month. The distorted face in the jar-looking helmet, his protoplasmic touch, his mannequin girlfriend, etc. combined to imprint the character in my mind. The first time that I recall hearing about acromegaly would have been in reference to famed wrestler/actor Andre the Giant.
Chris Samnee was just born to draw Batman and Daredevil his style is just perfect on both of those characters. .
Yes, there was indeed a villain named Waxman: he was a Marvel character and first (and last, as far as I know) appeared in Spiderwoman #18, which came out about a year after this issue of Detective and was written by Wein’s good buddy Marv Wolfman. In fact, Waxman may well have been inspired by this iteration of Clayface, because as I recall, vaguely (it’s been ages since I’ve read it), he also had trouble retaining a normal human shape and often began melting into a gooey mess.
I really don’t get why naming the Preston Payne character “Clayface” should cause such consternation. No, he’s not the same as the previous version. Nor was that version at all like the version before that. Companies like to maintain their trademarks. End of story. Deal with it.
(But if we DID want to come up with something new, I like “Professor Protoplasm,” mentioned above by Super Captain.)
So Preston’s body is in danger of dissolving away, and he builds a containment suit. With a cape. Because even with the horror his life has become, he still has style.
I knew his background from Who’s Who, but this is my first time reading these issues. It’s pretty much as gruesome as I figured, and very entertaining. Perfect for the spooky season.
Waid/Samnee are the perfect team for B&R Year One, in my opinion. I’m glad you guys are balancing with a more joyful story to cover. It’s so much fun.
Again, containment suit with a cape.
