Ooh can’t wait.
I’m just chiming in early to remind/tell people that I’m still keeping this list of all films covered on Film&Water on Letterboxd updated:
https://letterboxd.com/siskoid/list/film-water-podcast-filmography/
Everything the show’s done at a single glance (or a couple of glaces, 191 movies takes more than a single page!!!).
Thanks for putting that together, Siskoid!
IT’S just like Hamlet guys if you can assume the ghost is real DO. I assume any cosmology that allows werewolves allow for ghosts
Good point, Rob. If I can accept David turning into an evil magic wolf, Ghost Jack eating the toast probably isn’t a much tougher hurdle.
Great show guys, but I was really surprised that you never once mentioned how lovely Jenny Agutter was in this film.
Ahem.
Seriously though, great discussion. The ads for this movie scared the beejeezus out of me, showing bits of the big transfromation scene. Anyone who listens to the network knows I was traumatized by Lon Chaney’s change in Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein. Much like the film Magic from a few years prior, I would run out of the room when these commercials aired. I didn’t get to see the film until a few years later, when I was no longer a Horror Virgin (thanks to John Carpenter’s The Thing!).
I think this is one of those rare films where the blend of humor and horror actually works. It’s a razor’s edge that the creators had to walk, and there’s no guarantee they would get it right. I don’t think Cindy’s ever seen this, but I don’t imagine she’d like it, because she doesn’t usually enjoy her peanut butter and chocolate mixed…hence her dislike of Dr. Phibes.
I’ve always been flummoxed by David Naughton’s somewhat tepid career after this. I did know him as the Dr. Pepper guy (as a lifelong fan of Dr. Pepper, I’m Pepper too). I am obligated to mention he voiced The Streak, the leader of the Justice Guild of America, on the classic animated Justice League episode, “Legends”.
Rob & Andy, this was great. My wife and I spent three nights watching the movie and listening to your commentary, starting on Halloween night after we ran out of candy. We watched and listened asynchronously, watching a scene and then listening to your commentary on it. We really enjoyed it, and I got to share a Fire & Water event with her, so thank you very much!
Glad we could contribute to your Halloween in some small way. Thanks
