I’ve had this issue since before I could read and it was the one I would look through the least and never really knew what the story was about. I had no idea there was a mind wipe. Could I get a mind wipe too?
Heres my idea for team up story
For Mordid.
He needs help to with spider woman so he calls on his friends from alternate time Solomon Kane and the green lama and they go on adventure and help rain spider woman . Plus Solomon Kane killing hydra agents who does not see that .
And the green lama was pulp revival to the shadow who didn’t use guns .
Typo should say train
I’m typing on treadmill
I don’t think Ben would Ben would want to forget this, I mean he just had a fun exiciting vacation with Alicia and got to make out with both her and Spider Woman. Though I can see Sue Storm making massive fun of him over Spider Alicia if he actually did forget it. Modred the Mystic is kind of a loser. I can see Loki or Dorammu taking him out fairly quickly.
Is Mordred the only Marvel hero/villain who actually wears shoes? There’s lots of boots or one-piece leggings, but the kind of thing you have to hit a Thom McCann for?
I’m typing this comment on May 13th, Marv Wolfman’s birthday. I thought of a team up of some of his memorable (but not in a good way) characters. Chauncey and Trevor team with my despised Harold H. Harold from Tomb of Dracula. My first thought was that they could vacation together in Tokyo, where Godzilla stomps them into paste and then sets their remains on fire with his atomic breath. Considering how Harold H. Harold totally ruined Tomb of Dracula, though, I’m hesitant to let him anywhere near the Godzilla franchise.
My next thought was Harold, Chauncey and Trevor visit Texas, and Leatherface introduces them to the business end of his chainsaw. There have only been two good movies in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, with the last good one coming in 1986. That franchise was ruined years ago, so I don’t think Harold can do any more damage to it.
1. What does it feel like when alica kisses ben? Love (it’s my favrote comic relationship I will NOT be cyincal)
2 i have a reallly simple team up for Modred. Wolverine. Wolverine has a foe named bloodscream. He’s supposed to be a powerful vampire but Wolverine always kicks his but ok so he makes a deal with one of the dark hold deamon (what’s he smell like?
3 also he probly spent some time in super prision seems like there’s a story
I have a huge thing for any characters connected to the Arthurian mythos, so I have a soft spot for this issue despite it overall not being very good. I reread it recently for my “Random Comic Book Back Issue Reread” project on my Instagram account, and came away thinking the story was better in my memory than it really was. Ah, nostalgia. I did enjoy the elemental demons, and like everyone else I hated the mind-wipe. I feel like Ben spent a LOT of time gaslighting Alicia. (I also recently reread the Thing/Golem and Thing/Scarecrow issues, which I think bear out my point.)
As for a Modred team-up. Is it too obvious to say The Black Knight? The story starts in Camelot, with Modred interacting with Sir Percy (maybe something to do with Merlin and the enchanted ebony blade), then skips to the present day, where maybe Dane somehow redeems the villainous turn Modred has taken in his appearances and cures him of his connection to the Darkhold?
I actually read this issue a few months ago when I decided to revisit some of the more obscure characters in the back-end of Essential Marvel Horror v2, so it’s still a bit fresh in my mind. And … I guess I’m not as charitably disposed toward it (or the other Modred stories for that matter) as Anthony above (and like him, I also re-read the M 2-in-1s featuring the Golem and Scarecrow).
For me, Modred always worked better as a villain; I first encountered him in the ‘Nights of Wundagore’ arc in Avengers, when he was under Chthon’s control, and I recall being surprised later when I learned he was initially a hero of sorts. However, when I finally read those original appearances in Marvel Chillers, my mind wasn’t changed. All that to say that I think the best team-up partner for Modred would be someone like Baron Mordo – I’m thinking of the two of them ineptly plotting to finally get Dr. Strange, and then getting their butts kicked (ideally by Clea with an assist from Wong…)
This was certainly an issue I read when I was on a Spider-Woman kick a couple of years ago. But boy, even Jessica isn’t enough of a draw to spawn a re-read, because I just don’t care about Modred. Your coverage tells me I made the right choice.
Don’t get me wrong, I completely support the Mighty Modred Marching Society fans out there to love what they love, but it’s not for me. Plus I just can’t separate him from Mordred, making the character intentionally confusing and offputting.
I cannot think of a genuine team-up for Mo’, so here’s the ridiculous one. Remember the Eclipso episodes of Justice League animated series? And the witch doctor character was named Mophir, pronounced mo-fear? There you go. You have Mo’ Dread and Mo’ Fear as roommates in the big city struggling to make mo’ money.
Fun episode, guys! I really want to like Modred. Characters who look like they originated in the 1980s Dungeons & Dragons cartoon are my jam. But he is just so boring! Also, is he a good guy or a bad guy? Make up your mind, Modred!
I love Ryan’s comment that Alicia is the defacto main character of Ryan North’s current and amazing Fantastic Four run. North had made her a favorite of mine for the first time. She’s a calm, brilliant, bad ass in the best way.
Great episode!
It was MY comment, but sure, lets credit the guy who has everything.
