  1. Fantastic interview, Shag! Mr. DeMatteis’ new projects sound very intruiging! I was also unaware of the Spider-Man series he’s currently writing, although the Batman: Robin Lives book is waiting for me in my file at my LCS.

Although it should seem obvious, it’s interesting to hear a creator say that he and his collaborators were kind of tired, and ready to move on from something even as successful as JLI. But as someone who’s been doing the same podcst for 8 years, I’m sure you’re feeling that a bit yourself, Shag!

    1. Chris – Thanks for listening and commenting! I’m also excited about JM’s current work for DC and Marvel, in addition to the DeMultiverse.

And yes, I can certainly relate to an amount of exhaustion after so many years. 🙂

  2. What a class act, Mr DeMatteis! Loved to hear him reminisce about his classic run and excited about the new stuff (which keeps on coming and coming, talk about staying on your feet). Loved this, not only as the Exit Interview (clever), but also as a very touching last word on Keith as well.
And I’m not going to lie, I got an Albert Brooks-in-Broadcast News bit of hearing my questions come from you.

    1. Gus – Thanks for listening and commenting! JM really was amazing, wasn’t he?

And THANK YOU for the great questions!! Much appreciated!

  3. What a fantastic interview and it was very touching to hear a few words about Keith. I read somewhere that JM was Keith’s most frequent collaborator and certainly the longest running collaboration – so it was nice to hear about how things were. I too consider Giffen as the closest to Kirby in terms of ideas just never ending for the next generation. I’m not sure we’ve had someone since to take that role.

I’m somewhat disappointed that you didn’t ask for his “One Punch” award or “Bwah-ha-ha” moment for the entire run – as even if it wasn’t one of his ideas it would be nice to know what idea Keith might have come out of the blue with that just caught everyone off guard. But that aside it was a great coverage of the tail end of the era – for the JLI as it’s clear the Giffen/Dematteis years kept going for a long time (Did he ever wonder why it wasn’t Demattis/Giffen – in the listings?)

The DeMultiverse looks great and I didn’t sign up for the first phase so hopefully I can figure out something for phase II! It’s clear that Mr DeMatteis loves not only his work but also the medium of comics and storytelling – it’s also clear he is a very kind and wonderful person – more power to him!

Can’t Believe we’ve only got 2 more episodes till you retire Shag!

    1. Hi Doug – Thanks for listening and commenting! For JM’s all-time “Bwah-ha-ha” moment from the series, go back and listen to my first interview with him in 2017. That was one of the questions I asked.

  4. Thanks for a terrific chorus show Shag, and cheers, JM, for suggesting it and being such a great guest. What a wonderful capper to an ambitious, wonderfully rewarding podcast series.

And many tas for asking my question, Shag. What a nice man you are.

  5. Excellent interview! JMD is so sweet and insightful. It was great to hear his musings about Keith Giffin, who is greatly missed.

Also, huge props to Martin for the Etrigan rhyme!

    Sean

    1. Sean – Thanks for listening and the kind feedback. JMD is really amazing to listen to, isn’t he?

And thank you for the questions you suggested! I was able to sneak a couple of them into the interview! Much appreciated!

  6. What a great interview. JM is easily one of my favorite writers, so getting to hear him talk about his process, what he is working on now, and memories of the end of his time with The Justice League was a real joy.

And also, thank you for doing the interview. You really do a great job of giving space to creators that you have on the show, and as a listener, I can feel you own fandom behind every question and comment you make, which just makes the entire thing a fun and entertaining, must listen. Thanks for putting this all together and having JM help close this show out.

  7. Oh wow, Shagg! This conversation with JM was wonderful! You two have great rapport, and such excellent questions. It was a delight from beginning to end. Congrats!
