  1. Aw, shucks. Sad to see another season end, but it was a nice season finale.
Again, you covered another issue I actually had back in the day. I was reading Spider-man very regularly at the time, and really enjoying this story arc leading to issue #200. (Like Scott, I’m really fond of this era for Spidey.)
And even though he didn’t do the art in this issue, I’m glad you have a little shout-out to Keith Pollard. I’ve always liked his art, and agree that it’s too bad that he apparently never became a fan favorite and attained superstar status. Regardless, he was a real workhorse for Marvel in the late ’70s/early ’80s, pretty much standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Sal Buscema: you could see his work regularly in Amazing Spider-man, Fantastic Four and Thor!

And finally, the young me had something else in common with Scott: we both liked Tang.
Looking forward to the next season…

  2. So excited to hear the first episode of a new season! That’s my takeaway from outro.

Looking at the covers, this is probably the third issue of my younger brother’s subscription–our school magazine drive added comics one year–and our first concentrated dose of superhero comics. I’ll have to ask him if he still has them; if he doesn’t, that’s on him, not our parents.

Yeah, this and the TV show cemented Mysterio as a major villian in my mind. The plot thread of JJJ having spells resolves with a quote that is one of my tags for his character!

  3. At some point, Scott tried to convince me of doing that Lincoln story on FW Team-Up, even if it didn’t really fit the format. The show’s migrated even further from that possibility, but it would still be pretty cool to hear coverage about it. You SURE you didn’t find those comics one lonely summer? 😉

    1. Siskoid, I’m proud that you remember our discussion! The story really was a team up between Scalphunter and Bat Lash and went through several issues of Weird Western Tales which, alas, was not a team up book. So as you said, “it didn’t really fit the format.” That said, any story arc that features a cover with Abraham Lincoln arm wrestling the main character should automatically supersede any “format.” 🙂

I hope someone will take me up on the offer to discuss those issues sometime! (Rob, after our discussion, I’m looking at you…) Lot of great comic book and historical connections to talk about. And really just kind of a fun adventure story.
