  1. Another great discussion! You guys made me realize something. Even though I consider the era of the first two seasons, pre-movie my sweet spot, I had pretty much ALL the movie/Season 3 toys, much more than the previous two series! Hot Rod, Rodimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Kup, Blur, Springer, Galvatron, Scourge. I didn’t have Cyclonus, a friend had that one. But I only had Optimus Prime, Prowl, Soundwave, Starscream, Grimlock, Swoop and Silverbolt for the bigger figures in the first two years. I did have a lot of mini-bots, though. But I could recreate the Season 3 play pattern much better, and that was right before I stopped buying toys to play with!

    1. I had Rodimus Prime, Hot Rod, Kup and Blur from the Autobots that year, and Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge from the Decepticons. After that, I stopped paying much attention to Transformers, but somehow I did end up getting several of the combiner waves, like the Seacons and Monstercons. I think those were probably birthday or Christmas presents.

  2. Perfect timing. I recently started a rewatch of the Transformers animated series. I thoroughly enjoyed season 1, but lost steam part way through season 2. As you mentioned this episode, the stories became a bit too fantastical that season. Regardless, you’ve inspired me to finish my rewatch. I also agree that The Ultimate Doom is one of the highwater multi-part stories in the series, and I’m enjoying your coverage of it.

I came to Transformers through the cartoon show, and it was a while before my parents bought my brother and I any of the toys. What finally made them give in was when we tried to make our own Transformers out of paper. (We used paper brads to articulate the joints, and to allow them to transform). The first Transformers toy I got was Prowl, my favorite character at the time.

Thanks for another incredible episode. I’m looking forward to part 3.

    1. Season 2 has some very good episodes, but it also has the Atlantis episode, the one where Spike’s brain gets put into a Frankenstein Autobot, the one where they fight a sexy female ninja robot, the one where Perceptor and Brawn shrink down and go into Megatron’s body, and some other crazy plots. The Golden Lagoon episode is pretty out there, but it manages to be pretty good too.
