  1. Thank you Ryan and all the Guests on this 3 part special. I enjoyed every part of it and has only added to my year of Transformers Nostalgia. After seeing the 40th Anniversary of the Cartoon in the Cinema a few weeks ago, this was great to hear more about the show and episodes I don’t recall being shown on UK TV. They might have been but I don’t recall these ones at all. However I’m going to go search them out now.

The UK TV Experience for Saturday Mornings or indeed weekday mornings and afternoons is VERY different and while we did get some episodes of some shows we rarely got a complete series of any of the US shows. And we never got a TV block of cartoons unless we were very very lucky and the Studio Based show wasn’t on. Unless that is if you had Satellite TV which did have all these shows but we didn’t so relied on VHS episodes to try and catch up.

The Exception to all this was when my brother and I would be on vacation in the US when we would get the TV Guide and we would get up at 6am waking our parents in the hotel room to see never before episodes (to us) of GI Joe, Thundercats, The Real Ghostbusters, Disney Cartoon block and of course Transformers. Ironically I never saw the likes of Bionic Six or my later Favourites Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers and Centurions. However those shows did get some showing in the UK cut up into segments and shown as part of the 2 to 3 hour Studio based shows.

So I’ve seen many Transformers Episode but certainly not a full season yet and this 3 part episode certainly has whet my appetite to go back and watch more of them.

Should you ever want to talk about the UK morning show action equivalents – which were often repeats of Gerry Anderson Thunderbirds, Stingray etc Or the amazing StarFleet – Xbomber… give me a shout and I’ll point you in the right direction.

    1. Thanks for listening!

I want to say there was a good three or four hour block of children’s cartoons on Saturdays for a decent chunk of my childhood. I never watched for that long, though. Probably 90 minutes/three shows and then I was off on some great adventure.

  2. Great show! Jon and Maggie are always fun to listen too. And Ryan of course! I kind of agree with Maggie. Even as a kid, I thought Rodimus was a pretty crap leader. After all that build up in the film, he just goes through the whole mopey “heavy is the head that wears the crown” business ALL SEASON LONG. When Optimus came back in the last two-parter (I never saw Headmasters, so I consider the Return of Optimus the finale), it was no big shakes that Rodimus was reverting back to Hot Rod!

I always liked Brawn too. Never thought of the Wolverine analogy, but it fits!

Thanks for doing these episodes Ryan. They were fun, and make me want to revisit G1, season 1.

    1. Thanks for listening!

And yeah, Hot Rod was always cooler than Rodimus. Hot Rod turned into a futuristic sports car, whereas Rodimus turned into a futuristic camper van.
