Siskoid Cinema presents… No Escape from Kurt Russell, the show that explores the filmography of one of American cinema’s best leading men and tries to get a handle on his mystique. Why is it we’ll watch anything so long as Kurt Russell’s name is attached to the project? On this episode, Siskoid and Diabolu Frank discuss 1984’s Swing Shift. A Rosie the Riveter romance, Siskoid? Yeah, but Kurt Russell is in it!

Blast from the past here – like Frank, I saw this because my mother was a Goldie Hawn fan, and probably crushing hard on 1980s Kurt Russell. I know I probably watched this a few times, but I don’t remember much about the specifics. Hearing the backstory on the film, the original version, the changes, made this a fun episode to listen to. I don’t have too much to add other than thanks for putting it together.
Thanks for covering this film. It’s actually the first film you’ve discussed in this deep dive into Kurt Russell that I’ve not actually seen. And honestly… I’m not thinking I need to see it now. The coverage was probably more enjoyable than the actual film – at least the version that reached our screens. I’d be more interested in the original cut perhaps or having it run against the released version to figure out what changed etc. Who would have thought that a film like this could be considered the Blade Runner of Kurt Russell’s film appearances (I’m joking as I think we all know what that film could actually end up being).
Anyway the pod was enjoyable and it was a great chemistry that Frank and Siskoid brought to the episode. I hope there weren’t major edits like in Swing shift and we find out that Frank and Siskoid were supposed to be bitter enemies or something 🙂
