Bolians. The blue glue that holds Starfleet together. Some are service providers, some are officers, and a few even get lines. And yet there’s a ton of lore about these Federation members. Siskoid plays one in a role-playing game, and he’s invited his GameMaster Ryan Blake back on the show to help dissect the people of Bolarus IX, their biology, culture, and impact on the TNG era.

Interesting discussion and conspiracy theory from Ryan.
It occurred to me given their blue skin, and their fixation on using the word “Bol” with seeming interchangeability in their language….
The Bolians are the Federation’s Smurfs.
If a Bolian does become a main character in a new Trek production, maybe they should introduce their true adversarial race…the Gargameloids.
Chris
You’ve broken it wide open.
Kelvin Timeline Trek Movies – Kelvin Kirk (Chris Pine) with an island Amazonian princess in 1984 versus a Mandolorian business man? Thought it might be obvious given the Kelvin theme and the current Pine movie in release limbo. Guess not.
My brain doesn’t always fire on full synapses.
I don’t think my favorite Bolian was mentioned, the one with the darker blue band thru the center of her face, and is also a cyborg, works for her dad the big purple guy. I think her name is Ne-bol-a.
Highly enjoyable discussion, gentle-bol!
I didn’t bring up NeBolia because it gave Ryan ammunition re: his paranoid theory.
Ah, clever boy.
Another fantastic episode!! One thing popped into my mind about Siskoid’s Bolian security officer. Having a security officer that isn’t predisposed to violence is a thread also tugged at by Peter David. In the NEW FRONTIER novel series, after a few years the Brikar Kebron went through their version of puberty. Once it was over, Kebron’s personality changed dramatically and he became very in touch with his emotions. He went from being the gruff angry security officer, to dual roles as security and ship’s counselor. Not an exact comparison for your Bolian, but there are some similarities about “nice” security officers. Again, great episode as always!
That I originally wanted to play a Bolian Counselor (and was denied) really mirrors this turn of events, but I swear I never got that far in NF!
