When Siskoid and Bass said they would cover every issue of Zero Hour, every tie-in, every Zero issue, they meant it! And so they just HAD to relight the feed on Zero Hour Strikes to cover the recently published 30th Anniversary Special, as well as the short Zero Hour story included in DC’s I Know What You Did Last Crisis! It’s a one-off to celebrate 30 years since they ruined Hal Jordan and killed the JSA! Think of this episode as a time anomaly!

Welcome back!
Donna was WW at the beginning of the Heinberg/Dodson run! Obviously, don’t get too attached.
See you for the 40th!
DC owes you guys royalties. I picked this up a couple weeks ago based solely on your coverage on the podcast a few years ago. Zero Hour was far from my favorite crossover event when it came out and this special was equally lackluster. However, just like with the original series, you made this sound more interesting than it was to read.
What DAG and Robert said! I thought there was a brief and unheralded period where Donna took up the mantle. Research confirmed it, but I think it was more than fifteen years after the nineties ended — so, another time anomaly in that anniversary special.
Siskoid and Bass, it is always a joy to hear your critical analysis of this series. You do a great job of pointing out the good as well as the bad, and you’re a terrific team. Thank you!
Great to have the show back, even if you did rediscover that Zero Hour is usually better in concept than execution.
I haven’t read the JSA horror story, but from the panels presented, I think the creators were referencing John Carpenter’s original Halloween with Sandman hiding in the closet, stabbing Extant in the eye, and then Extant sitting up while Wes’ back is turned. This same sequence of events happened with Laurie Strode and Michael Myers in that film.
I will check both of these out in the DCU Infinite app, just for the artwork alone. It’s nice to see art from Jurgens, Ordway and Kelly Jones in new comics when we can. As far as having to continue on with this series, I wouldn’t sweat it. Like many DC projects of the last several years, it’s likely the Parallax seeds are just forgotten all together as sands and priorities at the company shift.
All I hear is Carl Reiner when Bass says Kyle Rayner.
Imagine how *I* feel.
There have been similar 30th anniversary specials for the Death and Return of Superman in 2022 and 2023, but Knightfall, for instance, didn’t get anything. The common thread (that Knightfall lacks) is the involvement of Dan Jurgens and Jerry Ordway, which makes me think that they might be the driving force behind these things.
Whereas, we don’t gave Giffen to shill for Invasion (Inferior Five being when he did, I suppose).
I liked this a fair amount. How great to see Matrix Supergirl again, sporting the black outfit no less.
I think the Matrix Supergirl grew a lot in the aftermath of Superman’s death in the main timeline. So seeing her pick up the mantle in this splinter world where Supes stayed dead was pretty cool. And seeing Tom Grummett draw her again was a treat.
I loved Zero Hour!
Great episode! I enjoyed this fun little dip back into the 90s by some comic legends. Plus, I miss Kyle as a focus character and will take any chance I get to have him back in the spotlight.
I guess you should check out current GL comics where he stars in the back-up!
