  1. It’s good to have another episode of The Fantastic Pour, I’ve been waiting outside the Fantastic-Lounge for weeks, I’m SO thirsty!

It’s always good to hear Captain Entropy, I went to Tampa once, it may take forever to cross the road – so many monster trucks with blacked-out windows – but it was worth it to get to the Publix supermarket.

I managed just two issues of the Scott McDaniel-drawn Nightwing series, I admire the dizzying perspectives but his people were so ugly, Dick often looks like he’s being scrunched like a concertina. The gallery pics show he got better, but Dick’s musculature still looks like a padded duvet. Mind, that is one great Scarecrow.

I think you were probably kidding Brett, you know that even a silent issue has to have a script to guide the artist, maybe even a more carefully detailed one than the usual.

I don’t like ‘It was all a dream’ issues, what’s the point? It’s just padding.

If you read any of this out, Brett, feel free to describe me as ‘future guest’… a man can dream!

    1. Thanks, Martin, I’ll put in a good word for with the door man. Well work on the future guest part!

  2. Captain Entropy is always a welcome guest on the network!

There’s a local Mexican restaurant we frequent and my wife, who generally doesn’t drink, cannot resist their kiddie pool-sized Margaritas.

Scarecrow has always been one of my top 5 Bat Villains. Like with Captain Entropy, I’m always happy when he shows up.

Great episode Brett, and thanks for the kind words about TREASURYCAST!

    1. Thanks, Rob. I agree on the Captain. And no Florida woman can resist the siren song of the giant margarita!

(Fantastic four theme song parody sorry I’m not
    A song writer .)
I know it should be talking about knight wing but I’ve not read any of his comics and I don’t drink alcohol . In our house we only use angery orchard ale as marinade with onion soup for crockpot chicken. (I recommend it it’s really good)

  4. Non-drinker here, but I am a big fan of the 90s Dixon/McDaniel Nightwing series. That series plus Robin and Birds of Prey along w/ JSA brought me back to DC for the first time since the late 80s. Like Captain Entropy, I recall seeing Dick’s CD collection containing DC Talk (IIRC) and a few other hints of Christianity in the book. Dudley Soames aka Torque is a character that DC should use somewhere today.

You don’t want to get me started on college sports today. As my wife likes to say, I have opinions on the matter.

The discussion on malls took me back to the Asheville Mall that we visited quite a bit in my youth. Go up one escalator and there was Waldenbooks w/ comics and my beloved Target novelizations of Doctor Who. Then, go back down the stairs and walk a little further until the next escalator which took you to the arcade.

This was a fun show, Brett. And are you familiar w/ YouTube show(s) “Drinking History” and “Tasting History” hosted by Max Miller? He takes a look at the history around certain recipes and/or beverages?

    1. Thanks, SC. I’ll have to check out those shows. Every quality mall had an arcade in the bottom floor. Otherwise, what are we even doing here? And as I’ve said before, ALL are welcome in the Fantasti-Lounge. Drinkers and non drinker alike.

  5. Brett – awesome episode! Captain Entropy was great as usual (much better than your first guest) and I guess you were ok too.

Glad you guys talked about the Warner Brothers stores. They were awesome. I was lucky enough that there was one in the mall across the street from where I worked! I went there all the time at lunch, lol. My best purchase there was an original cel from Batman: The Animated Series. It was from the No Hope in Crime Alley episode and shows Batman and Leslie putting a rose down on the street. It is awesome. They had all kinds of stuff like that, and I think I picked up that same Extreme Justice Superman you had – my kids played with those kinds of figures all the time down at the shore (don’t tell Chris F!).

20 years ago – Starfire hands down. But now no question it is Babs. But c’mon Cap – Lori Elton has to at least make the list!

And wasn’t Agent 8 Helena Bertinelli? That Grayson series confused me.

    Keep up the great work!

    1. Thanks, Paul. And Helena was in Grayson but as another agent. Agent 8 was a blonde. Also, thanks for repping Lori Elton – one semester girlfriend

    2. Of course she’s on the list, my Bat-Cousin! She just is–not near the top.

I did like her, though. The competition is fierce!

  6. Great discussion fellas! I loved the Dixon/McDaniel run on Nightwing. Heck, I loved all the Bat-books under Dixon’s pen. It was a great era in my opinon.

It took me a while to warm to Scott McDaniel’s art. I didn’t care for his more experimental Daredevil, but I got on board with his dizzying Nightwing work rather quickly.

As for Dick’s “love of his life”…that’s a tough one. Depending on the day it’s either Kory or Babs. Usually Babs, but the traditionalist in me recalls the age difference, and how it was fairly one-sided in the 70s. Of course the Animated Series was really the first to make this romance a thing, as they were essentially the same age. And Dixon ran with it. BOP #8 cinched it. Okay, it’s Babs! I loved the Dick/Kory romance in NTT, but Wolfman really screwed the pooch by making her get married and all that. They never really recovered.

  7. Thanks, Chris. Yeah, McDaniel’s art can take a little getting used to, but once you’re in, the brilliance is obvious.

  8. I think this was the first time I’ve ever listened to you Brett. I enjoyed the show very much. Always happy to hear Captain Entropy! I was blushing about all the nice stuff you said about me, but I played the bit where Cap talked about my wife to her. She is very patient with me.

  9. You are all super kind, and one of you is Super Captain! Thank you for the gracious words. I love this community, and I am pleased as punch (see what I did there, Paul?) that you are also happy to listen to me. When Brett told me his idea for this show, I knew the combination of Brett’s personality and this premise meant he had lightning in a bottle, or maybe just good tequila. Now, after having an amateur as a guest (plus all this citrus ‍), he has truly passed the acid test! Cheers!

  10. Brett and Captain,
Great episode! I’m not sure how I feel about jalapeños on my margarita….I like spicy food, but spicy booze sounds like a bad hangover waiting to happen.

Great issue! To this day, when I picture Nightwing, I see McDaniel’s version (though Perez and Redondo follow close behind). I loved the Dixon/McDaniel run from the 90s. It set up Dick as his own man and hero and made Bludhaven a great DC locale, though I’m sure it only has 1/2 star on Trip Advisor. Too many cops with their heads on backwards….okay, it’s only one, but that is still too many.

    1. Thanks, Sean. You can really gauge how hot you want the drink to be based on if you leave in the jalapeno seeds, so without the seeds, you can have the essence and a little heat without it ruining your night. And I think Nightwing’s butt got the Trip Advisory score up to 1 star.

  11. Brett (& Captain Entropy) – Another FANTASTIC episode!! Since you made the mistake of mentioning the late 1990s DC action figures — called TOTAL JUSTICE — you are now subjected to my passion!

Here is a link to an episode of Michael Bailey’s VIEWS FROM THE LONGBOX where he and I had an in-depth discussion about this action figure line:
    https://viewsfromthelongbox.blogspot.com/2016/06/episode-241-total-justice.html

Here is a gallery of my TOTAL JUSTICE (and subsequent JLA) figures:

And now you know. And knowing is half the battle! The other half is red and blue lasers.

    1
  12. Thanks, Shag! And give that Views from the Longbox a listen, great episode.

Also, there another half of the battle being Deep Six appearing in the middle of a lake to lecture kids about getting the hell out of the water when there’s lighting.

    1. Don’t forget the team telling us not to play inside refrigerators and freezers! It’s possible that I was just older than most of the GI Joe target audience. However, that clip is when I started suspecting that the GI Joe team thought I wasn’t too bright.
