  1. Great discussion. I think Woody definitely has the best line this week: “Ah, the old boy-loses-girl-wins, boy-wins-girl-loses, jinx reinforcement theory. If I’ve seen it once I’ve seen it a thousand times…”

It was fun to see Brent Spiner in a role very different from Data. And it seems Diane was right about everything in the case, even though all the other jurors hated her and disagreed with her. I actually felt a little concerned for the wife of Brent Spiner’s character as he pursued her out of the bar, but I guess we’re not meant to take it too seriously.

I agree it was awesome how Ted Danson smiled at Woody’s phone messages at the end of the cold open. I like how characters on Cheers sometimes laugh at each other. Most sitcoms don’t allow characters to see the humor that the audience sees, but Cheers broke the mold on this. Especially going forward into the later years, I think we will sometimes see Frasier laugh at something that Cliff or Woody says, for example.

  2. Yes, it was nice to see Carla get a win for once. Eddie and Carla had great chemistry that I wish we had gotten more of in the show. While I liked the Diane plot, it is also indicative that her story was essentially her away from the bar with none of the regulars. Some people think she was a fool for leaving a hit show but I don’t think it was just ego telling her she had a hit movie career on the horizon. I think she was not happy on the show and it was probably good for her to leave when she did.

  3. Once again, I’m impressed at how Cheers handles Part 2 recaps.

And boy, if your song is O Canada, have the decency to have it be the original French version. I always felt that the English adaptation shoehorned weird words in there to make it work.
