I loved this series and I am sad to see it go.
I do think that maybe Brendan Fletcher had a long form idea for this story but when the #Rebirth bell was rung, he knew he needed to get it done quickly. At times this felt a little too easy. Babs memory of a photo giving them so much info. The studio giving them the rest. Dinah knowing so much about her family.
Still, the end result was very good.
Besides, I always knew those gaunt, shirtless, British rockers were the undead. How else do you explain Mick Jagger?
I feel this was something of an experimental comic book, dealing so much with music and superheroics (unlike Jem or Josie, which lack the kung fu action). And I think the last issue is truly an experimental, philosophical mind-trip, a very daring way to close a series. So interested in hearing your thoughts on that.
Babs having an eidetic memory originated in her Secret Origins issue under Barbara Randall (Kesel) I believe. So nice tie-in to your other show!
This sounds interesting, but very strange. It does seem that Fletcher shoved about a years worth of plots into 2 issues, but you can’t blame him.
Bowie/Pop demon’s mouth is somewhat…um…vaginal. With teeth. Much like the infamous plant monster in the BTAS episode “Pretty Poison”. Make of that what you will.
Interested to see how this wraps up, and I REALLY need to get to my comic shop and sample some more DC Rebirth titles. I can’t believe I just typed that.

This sounds nuts.
I’m so torn about this series. There are so many elements about I like (BC, music, its “indie”-ness), but I wonder if they gel properly. I don’t know.
But I will miss it.
The issue that you talk about with how the mystery unfolds really sounds like a strapped for time problem. I suspect that by the time they were writing that issue the creative team knew they were on borrowed time and had to compress everything down into whatever issues they had left. I’m willing to extend that benefit of the doubt because, as you pointed out, the information gained is all good stuff and it’s only the methods used to gain it that are sloppy to the point of basically cheating.
Definitely sad to see this series wrapping up but I look forward to your coverage of the final issue. Just remember, no matter what it’s going to be better than the last issue of the 90s Black Canary series.
